In 2002 World’s Day of Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development was established. Since then, we celebrate it on May the 21st. The aim of this commemoration is to understand the value of cultural diversity and to promote its coexistence.
A year earlier, UNESCO issued its Universal Declaration about Cultural Diversity, but it was until 2002 when the United Nations General Assembly declared May 21st as the Official Date for the World’s Day of Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development (Resolution 57- 7249).
Each year, the UN organizes a series of debates, discussion forums, conferences and lectures on various manifestations, expressions, cultural elements, and designed strategies to enforce relations between human beings.
Using the slogan "Sharing Culture for Shared Security ", the Third Forum on Intercultural Dialogue was held this year in Baku, Republic of Azerbaijan (18 and May 19). This event and was organized by UNESCO, UNAOC, UNWTO, the Council of Europe and the Islamic Organization for Education, Science and Culture.
At the forum, the leaders raised their voices in favor of cooperation, dialogue and working together to achieve world’s peace.
For diversity and inclusion
Among the objectives that the World’s Day of Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development pursues, we find the following:
- Get the commitment of people with daily actions that support diversity.
- Eliminate stereotypes in order to improve the cooperation and understanding between people of different cultures.
