José Alejandro Pérez, Gardhí Vila Attorneys member, is competing in Human Rights Competition “Sergio García Méndez” Fourth Edition. This event is underway in Mexico City in Universidad Autónoma de México (UNAM).
"The competition is an academic endeavor that has as main objective to promote a culture of respect and protection of human rights at national and international level. At the same time, it is a comprehensive model of training offered to universities and to youth participants. This event is an opportunity to approach to a new practical learning from research techniques and argumentation under a human rights approach", ensures the call for the law faculty of the UNAM.
How does the competition it takes place? Through simulation of a contentious process that builds on an issue raised by a hypothetical case.
"With this dynamic, participating teams must develop a series of arguments, through the incorporation of international standards and the application of legal frameworks to a hypothetical legal case. Each one will represent to each one of the parts in a judgement: injured and responsible, respectively".
For one week (7 to 11 September) participants must complete two stages: written and oral, in addition to the Preliminary Rounds and Semifinals.
The contest not only includes high doses of adrenaline, preparation, knowledge and passion on Mexican and international law too are included. Those who qualify and overcome the various stages reach they will go to the final rounds.
And in this round, the finals, the qualified teams are brought to Inter-American Court of Human Rights for, with their arguments, to win the number one position.
Jose Alejandro Perez competes with two companions of school, Melina Ortiz and Mariana Alatorre, and they are part of one team of Guadalajara, specifically the Faculty of Law of the Western Institute of Technology and Higher Education (ITESO), which participates in the fourth Edition of Competition on Human Rights "Sergio Garcia Ramirez".
