The Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (IMPI) and World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) celebrated the Interregional Seminar on International Trademark Registration System: The Madrid System in Puebla, Mexico.
The meeting was held for the purpose of seeking views on the international registration of marks, the impact on the world economy and the importance of appropriate mechanisms to facilitate the protection of intellectual property rights.
In the city of Puebla, directors of IPOs in Brazil, Cambodia, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, United States, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Peru, Korea gathered, Singapore, Vietnam and officials and representatives of Mexico.
This is the first time that WIPO conducted a seminar at the interregional level and due to the success of Mexico related with IP was elected as headquarters, with this event the WIPO recognize his role internationally.
"Mexico it is the only Office, Latin America region, with the highest number of applications received under the Madrid system, since so far received 28, 593 applications for trademark registration since 2013, as designated Office", is secured in IMPI.
The event started its activities with the presentation by David Muls, chief Registry of Madrid, Brands and Designs Sector WIPO, which took title "The Madrid System: Overview and Trends".
"The Role of Intellectual Property Agreements on Trade Facilitation and Economic Impact of Reducing Barriers Protection of Intellectual Property Rights" was the following written statement which was made by the General Director of International Trade Rules in the Ministry of Economy, Carlos Jesús González Piñera.
After the meeting, the experts reaffirmed that the protection of intangible assets is necessary for a company to achieve success. A registered account with the ability to be licensed, to generate a franchise or just to be protected against any misuse of the same brand.
