In order to encourage reading, today is celebrating the World Book Day and Copyright.
Enacted by UNESCO in 1995, the April 23 realize an homage to the great authors which died on 23 April. With this in mind, the UNESCO created the World Book and Copyright Day.
Cervantes, Shakespeare and Gacilaso de la Vega are some of the writers who died on this date.
As part of celebration, the International Publishers Association, the International Booksellers Federation and the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions, in addition to UNESCO, choose a world book capital.
Every year the country, city, or region elected begins its mandate on April 23.
"The initiative is added to the celebrations of World Book and Copyright and highlights the collaboration between key players in the book industry and commitment of cities to promote books and reading", reports UNESCO.
Incheon, Republic of Korea, is the World Book Capital 2015. According to the Selection Committee of UNESCO this selection is a recognition of Incheon to his program to promote reading among young people and disadvantaged sectors of the population.
The celebration
Mexico. Fairs, festivals, cultural exhibitions, readings, sale of publications, poetry marathons and book presentations are held in Puebla, Mexico City, Oaxaca, Guadalajara, and other states of the Mexican Republic.
Spain. Delivery of the Cervantes Prize Juan Goytisolo by the Kings of Spain.
Cuba. Language Day is celebrated.
